媒體報導指出，內政部長李鴻源身材高大，因目前的部車座車太小，內部政打算專案汰換部長座車，由於車齡僅4年，引來立委批評，內政部31日大動作澄清，公開部長及次長座車，且說明車況，強調已使用8年，因為車況不佳，曾在執勤途中拋錨，考量首長安全，才報行政院同意編列預算進行更換。
內政部指出，目前李鴻源座車是2005年5月時購買，已經使用8年，曾在陽明山等地3度拋錨，隨扈得下車推車，不僅對首長安全可能造成危害，也影響公務，考量車況不佳不堪維修，及安全問題，所以報請行政院同意換購。
內政部表示，4年前採購的車輛，本來是次長座車，因江宜樺當時擔任內政部長響應節能減碳，所以登記成為首長座車，在江宜樺升任行政院長後，回歸內政部次長使用。
內政部解釋，部長李鴻源身邊有隨扈、幕僚，原先登記的首長座車稍微小一點，會比較擠，所以才改坐次長座車，並沒有媒體報導的4年座車就要更換的情況。
