總統馬英九今（26）日出席2013全國新移民「家庭楷模」暨「婦女楷模」表揚大會，分別用4種語言向在場新移民問候。總統鼓勵新移民的媽媽在家裡教小孩講母語，未來小孩如能運用母語跟媽媽的母社會來往，變成未來很重要的資產。
馬總統說，他看到有這麼多新移民到台灣來，是天上掉下來的，讓大家有機會認識更多越南、泰國、柬埔寨、緬甸、印尼的朋友，非常難得。
他鼓勵新移民的媽媽們，在家裡一定要教小孩講母語，國語教學工作交給老師。
馬總統說，把小孩的母語教好，這樣小孩不但學會了本地的國語，也同時能夠運用母語，並且跟媽媽的母社會來往，「這個變成他未來很重要的一個資源、資產」；多學一種語言，就多開一扇窗戶。
他說，目前10個國中小學生當中，有1名就是來自新移民的家庭。到了2030年之後，全台灣25歲青年當中，有13%來自新移民的家庭，「孩子會講印尼話、越南話、泰國話、柬埔寨話，將來都是他的一項資產，千萬不要認為這是一個麻煩」。
東南亞的潛力無窮，馬總統說，台灣應該多培養這方面的人才，重視與東南亞的關係，這也是國家重要的政策，「不是政府喊幾句『南向政策』就會這樣，必須扎實去研究、誠懇與東南亞民眾交往」。
此外，馬總統也透露，今年已有超過1100位新移民加入國民黨，代表新移民認為國民黨願意照顧新移民，誠懇跟新移民交朋友，這很重要，也希望這成為台灣的特色。
