Sony Mobile to reach revised smartphone shipment target for fiscal 2014, say Taiwan makers

Sony Mobile Communications saw its smartphone shipments increase 20.2% sequentially to 11.9 million units in the fourth quarter of 2014, bringing combined shipments for the first three quarters of its fiscal 2014 (April 2014-March 2015) to 31.2 million units, according to company data.
Sony Mobile is expected to ship over eight million smartphones in the first calendar quarter of 2015, allowing the vendor to reach its revised shipment target of 39.2 million units for its fiscal 2014, according to estimates by Taiwan-based handset component suppliers.
Regarding sales performance, Sony Mobile saw its revenues gain 28.7% on quarter to JPY429 billion (US$3.555 billion) and its operating profits rise 47.6% to JPY9.3 billion in the fourth quarter of 2014. However, Sony Mobile still posted net losses of JPY165.5 billion in the first three quarters of fiscal 2014.
Sony Mobile's total revenues for fiscal 2014 are expected to reach JPY1.3 trillion, accounting for 16% of total revenues of the Sony Group in the fiscal year, according to the company.
