歐巴馬與希拉蕊於華盛頓時間29日在白宮單獨共進午餐，由於希拉蕊是民主黨角逐下屆白宮大位的熱門人選，因此這次會面引發媒體高度關注。白宮方面則表示，兩人純屬敘舊。
綜合媒體報導，這是希拉蕊今(2013)年2月離任後，歐巴馬首度邀請她到白宮共進午餐。白宮副發言人厄尼思特（Josh Earnest）表示，歐巴馬與希拉蕊不僅有緊密的工作關係，亦有深厚的友情。
希拉蕊卸任後，仍是美國政壇焦點，但至今未表態是否參與2016年的大選。但是，在她露面的公開場合或演講會中，與會者屢次表達希望她參選的意願。同時，據報導，與她參選有關的政治團體已形成，並也獲得了歐巴馬參選時部份重要助選者的支持。
對於希拉蕊，外界在猜測她是否會東山再起，再次參選；而對於歐巴馬，則是猜測他會支持希拉蕊還是副總統拜登（Joe Biden），因為歐巴馬的支持尤為關鍵。
厄尼思特表示，距離2016年還有點遠，兩人吃飯只是單純的朋友聚會。此外，白宮方面未提供午餐會談的進一步內容。
