歐巴馬7日邀請共和黨國會議員到白宮午餐，本意是雙方討論合作，結果在移民政策改革上爆發新爭執，共和黨領袖當面警告歐巴馬不要片面行動，歐巴馬未為所動。與會的共和黨人說，他們請歐巴馬多給國會一點時間立法，歐巴馬則重申，如果國會不在年底前通過法案來放寬解遞非法移民的規定，他將以行政命令為之。共和黨說，共和黨在4日的國會期中選舉通吃國會兩院，代表民意，歐巴馬不聽民意，反而更挑釁。白宮新聞秘書則說，既然國會立法無能，總統只好單獨行事。
