閉幕典禮上最後上頒獎台的選手，如果有地主選手，是再好不過的結局，俄羅斯不但辦到，還包辦金銀銅！

男子越野滑雪集體出發項目，在閉幕典禮這一天誕生獎牌，結果Alexander Legkov、 Maxim Vylegzhanin與Ilia Chernousov替俄羅斯把頒獎台席次全部給占領。

Legkov是第一次在冬季奧運奪金，與奪銀、鍍銅的隊友，一同於閉幕典禮上站上頒獎台，讓地主好不風光。

這是俄羅斯在此項目繼1924年霞慕尼冬運的挪威還有1928年聖莫里茲冬運、1936年加爾米施-帕滕基興冬運的瑞典之後，成為史上第三支橫掃金銀銅的隊伍。

Legkov是俄羅斯繼2002年鹽湖城冬運的Mikhail Ivanov之後，隊史第二位在此項目奪得金牌的選手。

同一時間站上頒獎台的，還有女子越野滑雪集體出發項目，這個項目被挪威包辦前三，分別為Marit Bjoergen 、Therese Johaug與Kristin Stoermer Steira。
