Yahoo 宣佈收購 2013 年 5 月成立的 MessageMe，將其納入 Yahoo 通訊軟體部份，開發全新即時通訊軟體，加入矽谷科技龍頭們虎視眈眈的領域。

即時通訊軟體成為科技龍頭新寵，繼 Facebook 跟 WhatsApp 之後，Google 也宣佈要開發自家即時通訊軟體（Hangouts 表示：疑？），更別忘了還有蘋果不斷加入向其他通訊軟體致敬功能的 iMessage。有鑑於此，雖然 Yahoo 已經有了自己的 Yahoo 即時通，仍對行動裝置上的即時通訊軟體展現濃濃興趣。

相較於擁有超過 6 億使用者的 WhatsApp ，如果你沒有聽過擁有百萬使用者（對，真的只有百萬）的 MessageMe，也是相當合理的。在 MessageMe 發表的聲明中表示，在團隊加入後，Yahoo 將會關閉現有的 MessageMe 應用程式，並在 11 月 7 日關閉服務並清空伺服器，所有 MessageMe 員工將加入 Yahoo 旗下，進行全新行動裝置即時通訊平台的開發。

有趣的是，Snapchat 也曾傳出要收購 MessageMe 的訊息，而市場上也傳出 Yahoo 因為阿里巴巴上市後多出了 80 億現金，想要投資 Snapchat 的風聲。行動裝置上的即時通訊軟體競爭已經白熱化，究竟誰會真正成為市場新霸主，仍有待觀察。
